Our sincerest condolences regarding the loss of your loved one to COVID-19. This email discusses some of the resources FEMA has made available to households in your situation.

Per legislation passed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, FEMA has received funding to provide financial assistance for funeral expenses incurred on or after January 20, 2020 due to a COVID-19-related death. A maximum of $9,000 is available per deceased individual and a maximum of $35,000 is available per application.

Requirements to potentially qualify:

  • Official death certificate that shows the death occurred in the United States, including US territories and the District of Columbia.
  • The death certificate must attribute the death directly or indirectly to COVID-19. Certain restrictions apply depending on the date of death. Please visit FEMA’s site for more details.
  • You are a US citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified non-citizen.
  • You were responsible for eligible funeral expenses.

To apply, contact the COVID-19 Funeral Assistance Helpline at 844-684-6333 between the hours of 9:00am and 9:00pm Eastern Time.
